Most special events have a standard donation. This covers the use of the church, and if desired, the parish priest to preside over your event/sacrament. If a clergy from another Catholic church will be presiding, it is required that the clergy, family, or event planner contact our church priest to organize having the church unlocked, necesary vestments, and any other details. Lectors, musicians, Eucharistic ministers of Holy Communion, and altar servers are not provided as a part of the donation or church reservation. If desired, you will have to organize those duties and hire/contract people to provide those services. If you are not a resident on the island with local contacts, our first recommendation is to hire from the mainland for services like musicians. We have limited options on the island and most of our staff is volunteer and work full-time jobs outside the church.
Weddings, Funerals, and Quinceñeras are not available to schedule on Sundays due to our weekend Mass schedule, priest availability, and local custom. We encourage any other day of the week, in coordination with our office and Pastor, Father Dario.
> We do our best to have the most updated copy of our registration sheets on this webpage. If you see a date from a year prior, then that was the last time that document was revised and we are still actively using that copy.
Confessions
Given by appointment with the parish priest. Call, email, or contact before or after Mass to schedule.
Annointing of the Sick
Contact the parish office or priest. Advanced notice is appreciated.
Marriages
Contact Parish Office at least SIX months before the desired wedding date. At least one person in the marriage must be Catholic. Please download, complete, and submit each of the four (4) forms, A through D. If St. Catherine's is not your home parish, you must receive signed permission from your home parish pastor to have the marriage ceremony elsewhere. (Form C) Completed forms may be mailed, or scanned and emailed to the church. If you would like to receive physical copies of the marriage forms, our office staff will need your mailing address to mail you forms to fill out.
Contact the parish office as soon as possible. We understand the loss of a family member can be a challenging time, so please contact us wih an idea of dates and times so our office staff can plan your event into the church schedule. Lectors, musicians, and altar servers are not provided by the church. You will have to make arrangements for those duties as a part of the funeral Mass. Visiting musicians and hired musicians are welcome to use the church instruments, but must contact our parish Music Director to have them unlocked and organize use of any microphones, etc.
Note for cemetery services from the City of Avalon:
The Administration Dept. oversees and maintains the City of Avalon Memorial Cemetery. Please consider the following when scheduling a funeral mass that involves the City of Avalon Memorial Cemetery:
> The latest start time at the cemetery is 12:00 noon for a full body burial or a burial of cremains.
> The latest start time at the cemetery is 12:30 p.m. for a niche internment.
The City of Avalon performs cemetery services only on Thursdays and Fridays.
Baptisms
Contact Parish Office at least TWO months before the desired baptism date. Some of our documents say "one" month, but the sooner you notify us, the better. The office will inform you of paperwork needed and any classes necessary. Our parish does not currently offer pre-baptism classes, but we can refer you to those resources that are available on the mainland, through the Archdiocese.
Contact the Parish Office at least ONE MONTH before desired date. Do not decide on a date until speaking with our priest. You must receive permission to use the church for a ceremony. Only the priest can give the final permission.
Comuníquese con la oficina al menos UN MES antes de la fecha deseada. No decidas una fecha hasta hablar con nuestro párroco. Debe recibir permiso para usar la iglesia para una ceremonia. Sólo el sacerdote puede dar el permiso final.
